The HIROSHIMA-class was first introduced during the Battle of
Cordra when a Horvaukan task force sought to capture the
ships within the shipyards located there. On a prototype at
the time, the USS HIROSHIMA used her pulse-fire phaser cannon
to blast the massive dock doors off SB CORDRA in one shot
after a power failure in the station was keeping the ship
from joining the fight outside. The force of the ship
helped turn the tide.
This class dreadnought requires three cores to power the full weapons
array. This creates a vessel, although of a great size, created
almost entirely of dense systems. Power cores, phaser arrays,
shielding systems, DK nodes and such like. Very little space is given over to secondary systems, and only two shuttle bays
of small capacity are available.
Tactically, this vessel should never be deployed unescorted as it
has a vulnerability to being swarmed by smaller vessels.
Although an overwhelming force in weaponry, the designers of this
class chose to name the vessels in this class after tragedies in
history so as to remind those that might use them of what the
price of such forces might be.

-------
Tri-Colbalt Based Torpedo System
--------------------------------
Designed primarily for orbital bombardment and against stationary
targets (like starbases), the slow moving Tri-Cobalt torpedos have
a very high yield, approximately ten times that of a flux torpedo.
Tri-Colbalt warheads cannot be replicated, so each ship carries a
very limited quantity, in the case of the Hiroshima, only 24.
