Introduction To Star Trek: Frontiers

Welcome to Star Trek: Frontiers...an interactive shared writing
experience set in the universe originally created by Gene Roddenbury's
famous Star Trek series. We are a group of creative writers who have
chosen this forum to explore the universe and the depths
of our imagination.

We write stories together, interactively, and post them on he web in
a yahoogroup (STF-Archives). We are not an outlet common for the publication
of full stories, so much as an organization or club designed to bring writers
together in structured groups so as to share and write in the same sculptured
universe ... a universe that we the players create and shape through
the stories we write.

Everyone joining STF with a character in Starfleet starts with the rank
of Ensign/2nd Lieutenant. Those who post frequently and constructively
rise thought the ranks to eventually be offered 'command' billets or
given opportunities to participate in the clubs organization.

What if you don't want to have a character in Starfleet? That's perfectly
fine! You can choose from a variety of of other positions available in
the game. Your character doesn't have to be in Starfleet for you to be
affiliated with STF. That's the beauty of the game.

Threads posted are not run independently. The Captains (Commanding
Officers or game masters) along with other game administrators volunteer
their free time to assist in the placement of players. The Captains also
coordination their plotlines with that of the overall game plotlines.
Additionally, Fleet Commanders and Captains coordinate to help by
matching people with the ships/units, writing styles, stories, and
themes that might suit them best.

Our units are the core of our organization with Commanding Officers
(unit administrators) coordinating the operations of these groups. They
are the ones that determine the true directions of their units and help
with controlling the overall flow of their units storylines.

The interactive element is what makes this activity a "game"...and
there are rules, customs, and structures for ordering that interaction,
to encourage the writing of stories, or role-playing (RP for short).
The structure provided is in place to help merge the units together
into one overall body, while helping to avoid total anarchy, chaos,
and conflicts that might arise
among our writers/players.

Experience in traditional role-playing games, creative writing,
naval protocol, military decorum, or Star Trek trivia are *not* required
to join STF. There training vessels and experienced volunteers in place
to help new players become acquainted with our rules and procedures, and
they are ready and eager to assist you in getting settled into a
Role-Playing Unit.

All you need to do is follow the steps outlined in the "New Players"
section of our website or to get your hands on the FAQ list. It can be
found on the website, in our newsgroup, or in our web-based archive
on yahoogroups.

Should you have any problems, feel free to send a to
stf-personnel@yahoogroups.com and someone from our
administration will get back to you.

Subj: STF Information

I want to know how to join STF.

It's as simple as that.

As a whole, we run on a PBEM (play by email) paradigm. When you consider
the web-archives, please keep that in mind. In addition, we overall game
'fabric' offers many different perspectives and unit types from the Trek
universe. Our units range from starships of explorations to ships of mercy
to ships of war to starbases to fighter wings and other concepts born
straight from the imagination.

Star Trek: Frontiers is totally non-commercial, and does not sanction use
of its facilities to advertise or solicit for any purpose. Content standards
vary from unit to unit, but we offer an environment that should have
something for almost everyone.

New players are always welcome, and should you have any questions, we
are always willing to answer them.
