The NIMUE Class is the second in a series of proposed variants of the
EXCALIBUR class. As the EXCALIBUR Class contains a cavernous secondary hull,
SFENG has chosen to fill it in different ways. The HANNIBAL Class (first of
the variants) extends the secondary hull adding a huge flight deck.

The NIMUE class is the development of work stemmed from Cmdr. Thomas Fremen
and RADM Sarah Pritchatt, due to a continuing bet from Commodore Sollace who
betted a 100 Year old Scotch that the pair of them could not work together
again. Needless to say he lost.

It is fair to say that the NIMUE class does not follow the current trends
within Starfleet Engineering, due to the sheer crew population of the
vessel. A staggering 858 crewmembers during regular duties and a massive
1330 during emergencies. The ship itself houses three computer cores as well
as a massive flight decks and Accident and Emergency wards attached to them.
However RADM Pritchatt (COMSFENG) and Cmdr. Fremen (Special Operations
Design Engineer) justified the numbers due to the sheer unusual nature of
space and the circumstances that Space might throw to the Medical class
vessels.

The role of the NIMUE class is the replacing the aging Medical Class vessels
within Starfleet service. The main Medical vessels within the fleet are the
‘ASCLEPIUS’ class refits which have kept the old space frame in service.
However this is not her only role, and she is also capable of Scientific
duties and has installed the Holographic Science Centre within the vessel.

The NIMUE Class removes the phaser cannon, using the axially mounted PIRC
power core to instead power a combined holographic and replicator system
called MASH. This system creates an internal structure using the ships
computers (refitted from C-Core to Fleming to cope with the extra load) of
several large cubes within the secondary hull. Effectively the secondary
hull is set of these cubes

The Molecular Adjustable Surgical Hospital (MASH) system comprises of the
axially mounted PIRC power core, and an upgraded Fleming Computer core. It
uses a combination of holodeck and replactor technology to create a
structured hospital inside the honeycombed secondary hull. The system can
create decking, equipment, supplies and systems required to run the hospital
of this size. It can create and support all known types of atmosphere
capable of sustaining life in any area desired. However, as the entire
system contains a holographic component it can be reconfigured into any
structural matrix desired within 24 hours. This allows the NIMUE Class to
adjust itself structurally and systematically to adapt to any situation or
emergency.

A second Fleming core is dedicated to provide a maximum of 150 additional
holographic staff, from nurses to doctors and specialists, in the medical,
biological, botanical, xenobiological and viriological fields. These staff,
however, are limited to the confines of the MASH. The central core can
provide an additional 2 EMHs who can roam anywhere on the ship.

Additional role for the NIMUE class is to act as a science vessel and as
such has an equal scientific staff and resources to fit her secondary role.
As such the NIMUE class uses the Achilles Sensor Pallet for main duties and
also the Vulcan Sensor Pallet for Planetary science and also has installed
the Holographic Science Centre (HSC) to aid in scientific duties and has
accesses to the third (and final) Fleming computer core at its disposal.

Tactical Systems have finally been up-dated on all medical class vessel and
the NIMUE class packs the best weapons available to Starfleet and as such
the recent re-scale of Phaser and Torpedo systems reflects this. Standard
phasers, pulse phasers and Positron inducers make up the bulk of the vessel
armament. The other bulk of the vessels armament is provided by the two
forward and one aft torpedo systems. Lastly the final defensive system for
this class is the multi-resolution (regenative) shield system, which is
based of the now older Hein-24 system but has been up-graded and now as a
limited regenative ability as well as being able to adapt to the frequency
of the weapons it encounters.

Additional System data:
=======================

DK-2 (Distorted Kinetics, Version 2).
=======================================

In a continual Deal with DSI, Starfleet has added DK ability to both
sections of the ship. This makes the seperated sections lethal in combat as
their maneuverability is improved by a factor of 4. As 4 node DK has yet to
be properly field tested, it is unknown how the combined ship will operate
under DK, however, the improvment is unlikely to be greater than a factor 4.
This would make the otherwise sluggish ship operate like an un-DKed Heavy
Cruiser.

Slip Stream Technology.
=========================

Quantum slipstream technology is one of the most advanced propulsion system
ever encountered by Starfleet.

The quantum slipstream is an extremely powerful means of propulsion that can
transport a vessel at speeds in the upper warp 9.9 range. The velocities
involved are so great that, in theory, the slipstream could carry a ship
across the galaxy in a single day, even thought this range is still beyond
the abilities of Federation science.

The quantum slipstream is actually a narrowly focused, directed warp field
that is initiated by manipulating the fabric of the space-time contimuum at
the quantum level. It works by focusing a quantum field through a deflector
dish to generate massive changes in local space curvature; this creates a
subspace tunnel, which is projected in front of the vessel. Once a ship has
entered this tunnel, the forces inside propel it at incredible speed.

Nettle Defensive System.
========================

A new defensive systems has been introduced which has seen success on the
Cussler Class is the 'nettle' defensive counter measure system. The system
in similar to most other counter measure available but merges old ideas into
newer and better system. The system in specific is quite simple. If an
threat is detected and the order to launch counter measures in ordered the
'nettle' system in intiated and the following happens; Firstly small rotary
launchers launch the counter measure devices, similar to rotary torpedoe
launchers. The counter measure system consist of multiple sphere's being
launched, (NRPG: about the size of a football roughly) the spheres
themselves contain a computer tracking system and a small charge of
anti-matter and laser emitters. The laser emitters all over the sphere
extend mulitiple beams one meter in length, if the beam or tracking system
detect the incomming target, i.e. a torpedoe in this case the sphere
detonates and destroys the threat. One of the advantages of this system in
that its range is just over that of most torpedo systems, so a vessel can
release counter measures in advance or use the system as a mine field.

Computer System (Fleming-102-a).
==================================

The Fleming-102-a computer system. This system is a new development and
included the first completely BIO Gel pack computer. The whole system in one
dual barrel gel pack supported in an armour shell for protection, and has
proved to be the fastest computer system presently used in Starfleet.
