[edit] General
In 2419 Starfleet Engineering felt the registry numbers getting too long and complicated to remember and work with. A new registry system needed to be introduced. It shall be easier to maintain and shorten the numbers.
[edit] Starfleet vessels
The format of the new registry number is
| NVR – Cn |
C is a class identifier and n the order number of the ship within its class. n is a natural number and has to be at least a two digit number. One digit numbers are converted by using a preceding 0.
The old designation NCC is replaced by NVR (Naval Vehicle Registry). The first digit of the registry number is an identifier designating the ship class. The identifier is followed by the actual registry number within the ship class. No NVR-number shall be shorter than three digits.
[edit] Identifiers
The identifiers are
| Identifier | Description |
|---|---|
| 1 | Dreadnoughts |
| 2 | Battlecruisers and Command Battlecruisers |
| 3 | Carriers |
| 4 | Heavy Cruisers |
| 5 | Light Cruisers |
| 6 | Destroyers |
| 7 | Frigates |
| 8 | Corvettes |
| 9 | Runabouts, yachts, misc. ships |
[edit] Use
The new registry system will be used for each new vessel. Existing vessels will be reregistered after major refits. Historical registry numbers can stick to a name such as the NCC-1701 to ships named Enterprise. These registry numbers keep the NCC designation to keep the nw registry system consistent.
[edit] Example
USS Example being a Light Cruiser could have the registry NVR – 504.
[edit] Attached Starfleet Vessels
The format of the new registry number is
| NVR – shipregistry – Tn |
Starfleet shuttles use the registry of the ship or station they are assigned to followed by a suffix. This suffix is constructed by the type of the vessel T and followed by a natural number with at least two digits. One digit numbers are converted by using a preceding 0.
[edit] Vessel types
| Type Identifier | Description |
|---|---|
| B | Bomber |
| ETV | Emergency Transport Vehicle |
| F | Fighter |
| H | Hopper |
| S | Shuttle |
| W | Workbee |
| Y | Yacht |
[edit] Use
Starfleet's attached vessels are reregistered at the next major refit of the hosting vessel/station or at assignment to a reregistered vessel.
[edit] Example
USS Example with the registry NVR – 504. The first shuttle is registered under NVR – 504 – S01.
